Sciene G4 Summary - Semester 1 (Updated)

Matter is anything that takes up space and has weight. The smallest piece of a substance that retains all its qualities called molecule. Gravity is the force that draws objects toward the center of the Earth.

Two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen constitutes a water molecule (H2O). The molecules typically arranged in solids packed very close together. Gas is the state of matter has molecules that are far apart and move rapidly. Many gases are colorless and compose air. When heated the molecules in solids begin to move more rapidly. The boiling point of water in Celsius is 100°C. The water changes into ice when it's cold, typically at 0°C. Evaporation is the process by which liquid water becomes water vapor called? Nitrogen is the primary component of air, constituting 78% of it. Condensation is the term used to describe the process of water changing from a gas to a liquid. The process of condensation involves vapor freezing into tiny crystals of ice that form snowflakes. Dew point describes the temperature at which water condenses. Sleet is formed when falling rain or melted snow freezes into little solid balls of ice.

Oceans, lakes, and rivers covers approximately three-fourths of the Earth's surface. Fog is the term used for a cloud at ground level.

Stratus is the type of cloud is described as a flat, thick layer close to the Earth's surface. Nimbostratus clouds typically indicate Stormy weather and rain. Hail are the particles of ice that fall from the sky during thunderstorms. A large body of air with different temperatures and humidity is an air mass.

Salmon is the type of fish returns to the stream where it was born to lay its eggs.

Pacific Ocean is recognized as the largest and deepest ocean. Asia is considered the largest continent. Delta a deposit of sand and soil found at the mouth of some rivers. Indian Ocean is recognized as the warmest ocean.

North Star is the celestial object is used for direction as it's directly above the North Pole. Rotation is the spinning motion of the Earth. Sun is the closest star to Earth.
